About the museum

Welcome to the Parish Church of St Laurence.

This is a living church, a house of prayer. Each day, as for more than 800 years, God is worshipped here faithfully through word and sacrament. Each year 70,000 pilgrims and visitors come to our beautiful church raised to the glory of God and standing as a sign of his presence in our community.

Your guide for this tour is Shaun Ward, the Clerk of Works, and the tour will take 25 minutes to complete.

This audio guide will begin in the South Porch and end outside in the Churchyard. The route is mostly suitable for wheelchair users, with ramps provided for some small changes in levels. Entrances to the Chapels and chancel cannot be used by wheelchair users without assistance owing to the ancient steps, but the tour can be enjoyed from the entrances to these areas.

A unisex disabled lavatory is situated in the church with step-free access.

We look forward to welcoming you to this sacred space, an oasis of stillness and peace amidst the rush and busyness of everyday life.
