Now, just imagine yourselves being taken on a virtual journey back through history from the agricultural revival the valley has gone through over the past two centuries as a number of sugar beet and tobacco processing techniques became progressively industrialised, as exemplified by the impressive sugar processing plant at Pescaia, as far back as the earliest traces of Roman roads, spanning centuries of bloody battles such as that Scannagallo. The landscape we travel across is the result of natural and human influences as its was extensively and skilfully shaped by the hand of man over the centuries. What we behold is a huge open-air museum consisting of a seamless blend of places, events, situations, traditions and customs that are still alive and thriving to this very day. The banks of the Canale della Chiana and those of rivers Esse and Leprone, the road that runs along the hill-ridge between the Badicorte crossroads and Boschi Salviati, all provide an ideal setting for relaxing walks through unspoilt countryside. Walking along waterways, it is not uncommon to come across moorhens and grey herons; the surrounding rolling hills are covered with woodland, vineyards and olive groves. As the season change, so does the colour of the surrounding countryside that varies from the intense green of unripe wheat in the spring to the sun-kissed yellow of sun-flowers and gold of the harvest-ready wheat to the warm, pleasantly melancholy, meditation-inducing brown of tilled fields. An extraordinary colour palette which beautifully blends in with the subtle tones used in their works by Tuscan artists such as Bartolomeo della Gatta and others to create a unique chromotherapy experience for visitors to enjoy.
