If you want to hang for an afternoon and do what a typical Angelino does, The Grove and West Third Street are for you. It’s in what’s called the Fairfax District, only five minutes by car from Museum Mile, and it’s where everyone goes, mostly to eat. This area is a culinary mecca, and the variety of food is incredible. You can sample everything from Brazilian barbeque, gourmet tacos and Hawaiian poke bowls to health juices, artisanal donuts and a hundred other things, all within a few blocks. It’s also a neighbourhood where you’re likely to glimpse movie stars in their natural habitat, grabbing a bite or browsing a boutique. So if you want a break from the museums, or you’re in LA on business and you need to just get out and feel the vibe, head to Fairfax and Third. I’ll meet you there. By the way, be prepared to walk. Nothing in LA is compact, it all sprawls. We’ll walk seven or eight long blocks and back. Parking on the street or in the outside lot at the Grove is next to impossible, but there’s always room in the multi-story Grove parking structure, and it’s really cheap. To get there, turn at Farmers Market Place, between Third and Second off Fairfax.
