Welcome to Waverly – home to some of Baltimore’s most beautiful and interesting public art! You don’t have to be an art expert to enjoy observing the different styles and themes represented in the neighborhood’s murals. Learn about Cubism and “polypasting,” hear words spoken by neighbors on the street and by one of the mural artists, see artists’ prototype drawings for their work, and take in the variety of sights and sounds that make Waverly a unique part of the heart of Baltimore. Your guide is an assistant professor at Morgan State University, who while working on her graduate degree at nearby Johns Hopkins University frequently visited Waverly to partake of its food and culture.

I really enjoyed this tour: it offers just the right amount of information for each mural without becoming boring or heavy with scholarship. The best touches are the interviews and sounds of the streets around the murals. Bonus to hear from the artists and art writer, Jessica Novak! Makes me want to see - and hear - more!
