    Welcome to Maymont today.
As part of this mobile tour, you are going to go around Maymont’s Historic Estate Buildings and Gardens on the 100-acres.

From 1893 to 1925 Maymont was home to railroad magnate James Dooley and his wife, Sallie. Now it’s a carefully preserved historic landmark. Maymont offers something for everyone – panoramic parkland, formal gardens, magnificent century old trees and picturesque estate buildings, Virginia wildlife, and a Nature Center with aquariums and wildlife living around the James River.

The land was purchased by James and Sallie Dooley in 1886. They came across it when they were out horseback riding and fell in love with the sweeping vistas and the view of the James River. The Dooleys built their house on this property in 1893 and spent years creating the gardens and landscape we see today. When they died in the 1920’s, they left their estate to the City of Richmond so that future generations would be able to enjoy it.
