Muzeu Baturyn Museum of Archeology

Dear friends, welcome to the Baturyn Museum of Archaeology.

The museum is part of the National Historical and Cultural Reserve "Hetman’s Capital" and tells the story of Baturyn through archaeological discoveries.

Today, Baturyn is known as one of the historic capitals of Ukraine. However, just a few decades ago, many chapters of its past remained unknown. It was archaeologists who brought Baturyn back to the attention of Ukraine and the world. They uncovered the remains of the Baturyn fortress, the residences of the hetmans, churches, the estates of the Cossack elite, and thousands of unique artifacts that helped reconstruct the city’s centuries-old history.

The Baturyn Museum of Archaeology is housed in the former parish school of the Resurrection Church, built in 1904.

At various times, the building served as an elementary school and later as a preschool institution.

Following restoration work carried out between 2005 and 2008, the building became home to the Baturyn Museum of Archaeology.

The museum officially opened on January 22, 2009, on the Day of Unity of Ukraine, with the participation of the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko.

Archaeological research in Baturyn has been ongoing since 1995.

During this time, thousands of important artifacts have been discovered. These discoveries form the foundation of the museum’s collection. The exhibition presents the key stages of the city’s history, from its earliest settlements to the era of the Ukrainian Hetmanate, when Baturyn served as the political center of the Cossack state.
