Despre muzeu
10 September - 31 October 2016
CELEBRATE is the first project to explore the history and life stories of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans community of a largely rural region in the UK. Since 2014, the project has worked with individuals, voluntary organisations, academics, libraries and archives across Cumbria and beyond.
Featuring well-known events and individuals, as well as stories of everyday people and their friends and family, the exhibition showcases the previously undiscovered history of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans (LGBT) people in Cumbria.
Those stories will be brought to life through objects, audio recordings and a series of photographs by artist Colin Tennant. Colin has worked with a group of LGBT people over 50, to document their everyday life and to explore issues around age, gender and sexuality in a rural region.
CELEBRATE: LGBT History in Cumbria is a partnership project between OutREACH Cumbria and Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery, funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, with the Here, Today photo series also supported by Arts Council England as part of Elements Festival (www.elementsfest.com).
