The Parco Archeologico “Città del tufo,” or “Tufa City” Archeological Park, inaugurated in 1998, comprises three areas of great historical, archeological, ecological, and scenic landscape interest, which extend across sixty hectares (150 acres) of Sorano’s territory: the Etruscan necropolis of Sovana, the rock-cut settlement of San Rocco (near Sorano), and the rock-cut village of Vitozza, in the district of San Quirico.

The most significant remains are the Etruscan necropoli located on the hills surrounding the ancient town of Sovana, but the Park also includes numerous important vestiges of civilisation from late antiquity and the Middle Ages, such as castles, churches, fortifications, and rock-cut dwellings.
