We are now at the entrance to the Department of Oriental Antiquities. It is one of the largest in the world, along with the British Museum in London and the Pergamon in Berlin.

This department has existed for over 170 years. At this time, in the United States, the gold rush began, just before the Civil War.

This Department is devoted to the ancient civilizations of the Near East up to 7000 years before Christ. These succeeded one another in Mesopotamia, in Iran and in the countries of the Levant – a huge territory that extends from the Mediterranean Sea to India.
