In the centre of the Po Valley, the city of Piacenza is located on the right bank of the river Po, on the border with the Lombardy region.

The end point of the ancient Via Emilia, it is a centre rich in ancient religious buildings and prestigious palaces, testifying to an important history.

The typical tranquility of the provincial city blends with the pleasures of good food, a very important and valuable aspect of this charming town that is the starting point for visiting the beautiful valleys that characterize its provincial territory.

During your visit to the city of Piacenza you can see small treasures, memories of a rich and prosperous past, such as its Cathedral, the Gothic Palace, the Farnese Palace and many other wonderful noble palaces and the many churches narrowed down the streets of the city center, which contains, in its views, unexpected surprises.

Among the most important places to visit in Piacenza are Piazza dei Cavalli with its two equestrian statues, the adjacent Palazzo Gotico and the church of San Francesco. From here you can walk through the beautiful streets of the historic center, from Corso Vittorio Emanuele that leads to the historic "green" walk called Faxall, or along strà drita, as called by the elderly, that is via XX Settembre, which leads to Piazza del Duomo, where you can visit the cathedral and stop pleasantly under the arcades that run all around the square.

Another beautiful street on which overlook many windows that animate the historic center of Piacenza is Via Calzolai, at the end of which you reach Piazza Borgo, a small open space that houses one of the oldest newspaper kiosks, adjacent to the church of Santa Brigida of the twelfth century. From there, we descend, following via Garibaldi, towards Largo Battisti, which is the heart of the historic centre of Piacenza, on which Piazza dei Cavalli converge, via Sant'Antonino, which houses one of the most beautiful churches in the city, known as the Basilica of Sant'Antonino, and the already mentioned corso Vittorio Emanuele and via Garibaldi.

Other must-see places are the church of Santa Maria di Campagna, the church of San Sisto, the Palazzo Farnese which houses the Civic Museums of Palazzo Farnese, with the Etruscan liver, the Tondo di Botticelli and the Alberoni Gallery with the Ecce Homo by Antonello da Messina.

Another particularly important emergency is the Ricci Oddi Gallery of Modern Art, which offers a complete overview of Italian figurative art from the second half of the 19th century.

Then much more, because Piacenza is a city that offers itself discreetly, to be discovered at a slow pace and with your head held high, sipping a drink or an aperitif in the beautiful cafes that open their doors on the high walls and ancient walls of a historic center capable of surprising.
