The Ticket Office at Grandchester is more than just the place where passengers came to buy tickets, it was the central administrative area for the Station. As well, in 1918 it was extended to include a signal cabin, a raised platform area within the room from which station traffic could be seen and directed.
Most of the items now on display in this room were needed for the proper functioning of the railway system in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
