About the museum

We are glad to see you at the Museum of History and Archeology of the Middle Urals, where the main historical and archaeological exhibition of the Sverdlovsk regional museum is located.

The building itself is a monument of constructivist architecture. It was built in the 1930s as the Palace of Culture named after Felix Dzerzhinsky - a professional revolutionary, a Soviet politician, the founder and head of the Cheka, the first of the Soviet state security organizations. This Palace of Culture was a part of a group of 14 buildings that people call Gorodok Chekistov (Soviet Security Officers Residential Area). The binding element of our exposition is a unique spiral staircase, a small masterpiece of constructivism.
