Preparation of images
Images are an important element of audio guides. The picture helps the visitors to identify the exhibit and allows you to show objects that are not included in the exhibition. You can draw attention to specific fragments and/or show the reverse side of a painting, statue, old photograph, etc. It is possible to load several images for each exhibit or tourist attraction. Use this feature when preparing stories related to the exhibits.
Legal image sources:
- Photos you have taken yourself. In this case you hold the image copyright. This is the ideal situation.
- Photos bought from stock photo sites (Shatterstock, Lobster.media, etc.). This is another good option, but it entails spending money. Carefully read the terms of using the acquired images. You may need to provide the author’s name and a link to the source from which the photo was acquired
- Online photos which are published under free licenses allowing the commercial use of images (e.g., Creative Commons), or which are in the public domain. These are free photo sources but they carry their own restrictions. As a rule, this is a requirement to specify next to the photo the image name, the image author, and the license type tagged by hyperlinks to the corresponding webpages.
Resources for free license photos: Google Images, Wikimedia Commons, Flickr, Pixabay , etc. Use expanded search. In the search parameters, select license allowing commercial use of images. More details: instructions for searching Google images. Carefully read and observe the license terms for using the downloaded images, the territorial restrictions for using photos in the public domain, etc.
Beware Using photos owned by someone else without the author’s consent or in violation of the contractual terms of use represents a copyright violation.
Some simple advice when preparing images.
An image of classic 4:3 proportions in a horizontal orientation looks best on any screen. These are the standard proportions and default on most cameras and mobile phones. Try to use these proportions for all of your images.
Images with proportions other than 4:3 loaded in izi.TRAVEL CMS will be made uniform through the addition of white sidebars. If, for some reason, you cannot create a picture with a 4:3 proportion, we recommend editing it and addiing appropriate padding by yourself. Choose the colors, contrast, etc.
Modern smartphones, on which your audio guide is being used, have high-resolution screens. Low-resolution images will ruin the visitors’ impression. We recommend using images with a resolution no lower than 1600×1200 pixels.
Save your images in JPEG or PNG format. These are the most popular image formats. For detailed information about the images’ technical requirements, see the “Supported data formats” section.
