We’ll begin with some practical details: our tour will commence on the Piazza Guido Monaco. If you’re coming by car, you’ll be able to park nearby and walk to the square. To find it, follow signs for “Piazza Della Repubblica”. This is the square in front of the station or “stazione” in Italian. From there, head off along Via Guido Monaco which will lead you to the square of the same name and the start of our walk. When you get there, stand by the statue in the centre.

The next item of information concerns the rather erratic – and typically Italian! - opening hours of the Basilica of San Francesco, which we’ll be visiting later. As a general rule, however, it is open:

•Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm,

•Sundays and holidays, from 1 pm to 6 pm,

It is closed on Saint Anthony’s Day, the 13th of June, and also on Saint Francis’ Day, the 4th of October.
