E’ la più importante chiesa costruita dai Gesuiti a Napoli. Si chiama “Gesù Nuovo” perché i Gesuiti avevano già costruito nel 1568 una chiesa, oggi nota come “Gesù Vecchio” adiacente alla sede universitaria. La nuova chiesa, progettata dall’architetto gesuita Giuseppe Valeriano, fu completata nel 1601 e dedicata all’Immacolata Concezione oltre che al Nome di Gesù.
