Audio tour Summary
The Great Path of Roero, called S1, passes through the entire ridge of the Rocche and the eight top villages built on the cliffs after the year 1000, for a total of about 40 km.
(Cisterna d’Asti, Canale, Montà, S. Stefano Roero, Monteu Roero, Montaldo Roero, Baldissero d’Alba, Sommariva Perno, Pocapaglia, Bra).
It can be traveled in both directions and is recommended in two stages.
The path begins in the city of Bra and reaches the village of Cisterna d'Asti (or vice versa): it allows you to appreciate the great variety of landscapes of Roero and the most pristine natural environments, where you can admire a still original flora and fauna. The ecosystem of the Rocche is very delicate: different microclimates coexist in a few hundred meters of altitude; pines and downy oaks, typical of dry vegetation, grow at the top of the ridges, while at the bottom of the ravines the stagnant water creates humid and luxuriant habitats.
- 1 The "Rocche" and the rural landscape of Roero
