The exhibition of works by the outstanding Norwegian expressionist Edvard Munch (1863–1944) for the first time in Russia will present the master’s legacy in such full scope.

The exposition will include about 70 paintings and 30 graphic works, photographs and memorial objects, mainly from the Munch Museum i n Oslo, as well as from the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. The most anticipated exhibit is a graphic version of the famous work The Scream which is stored in the Munch Museum. The formation of the worldview and visual thinking of the Norwegian genius was greatly influenced by the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky. “Munch and Dostoevsky” is a pervasive, internal theme of the whole exhibition. On top of that all, the exposition will feature books and monographs by Dostoevsky from the Munch Library.

The exhibition of Edvard Munch will continue the series of displays in the Tretyakov Gallery of European artists, whose work, related to Russian culture, served as a guide for national artists: Whistler and Russia (2006), Piet Mondrian. The Path to Abstraction (2013), Giorgio de Chirico. Metaphysical Insights (2017) and others. Such projects allow to trace the connection between European and Russian art.
