Heide has long been recognised as a place where ordinary life is put on hold. As you step through the gates off busy Templestowe Road, you enter into a sanctuary designed and cultivated by John and Sunday Reed. This land was significant well before they bought the property however; this site is home to the Yingabeal, an ancient, scarred maker tree. The cultural and historical significance of this site is well documented, most of it is heritage listed due to its rarity, its aesthetic qualities or associations with historical figures. This walking tour will take you throughout the gardens focusing on a selection of features that represent the past uses of the land, and the stories of the people who have been both integral and inspiring in cultivating what it is today.
