This section recreates the atmosphere of the German positions on Monte Altuzzo, where the command post for this sector of the Gothic Line was located.
The two reconstructed bunkers were set up by the Gotica Toscana association, based on original German photographs. Around them, collectible items stand alongside authentic materials recovered during excavation.
In the display cases, at the heart of the Grünelinie—as the Germans called the Gothic Line—you’ll discover weapons, gas protection equipment, medical supplies, personal gear, and comfort items. At this stage of the war, the German army was worn down, with far fewer resources than the Allies, yet determined to defend every inch of ground.
The bunkers you see here—and many others—can also be visited on the actual battlefield, walking the forest trails of the Giogo. Simply book with the museum’s office.
Now we step into the heart of the war: the soldiers of the Wehrmacht are ready to fight “to the last man, to the last cartridge.”
