Glebe was once known as “the architects’ suburb”. In the 19th century, a number of prominent Sydney architects lived here. They found it both attractive and profitable. Some worked largely in the area, while others became speculative developers. Many undertook work much further afield, still leaving their mark on Glebe. Overall their work has contributed to Glebe’s charm and outstanding heritage streetscapes.
This walk looks at a selection of Glebe’s distinguished architects. You will encounter buildings of differing architectural styles, having heritage significance. All are Heritage listed and some are also Classified by the National Trust.
