About the museum

This church is part of an important monastic complex that  belonged to the Benedictine order; it is one  of the most important in Naples and it includes two churches and four cloisters It has been home to the State Archives since 1835.

Giovanni Donadio, an architect from Calabria nicknamed Mormando, started the construction of the church  in  1494; he followed the  project according to the will of  king Alfonso d'Aragona II, who contributed with 15,000 ducats; huge amounts of money from the Mormiles disappointed the Benedictines.  The works continued until 1570.
