Many international students go through the four stages of culture shock: the honeymoon phase, where everything feels new and exciting; the frustration phase, where differences become overwhelming and can lead to homesickness or isolation ; the adjustment phase, where routines and familiarity start to develop; and finally, the acceptance phase, where the new culture begins to feel like home. This tour, "a community beyond borders," is designed to help students navigate these transitions by introducing them to Leeuwarden’s history, culture, and spaces where they might connect with others. At its core, a community is built on shared beliefs and the recognition of otherness, both strongly linked by the interactions one has with others.
