In 1999, the National Museum of Colombia set out to reflect upon the role that it would play in the twenty-first century and thus entered into an extensive consultation process with academics and citizens from different regions, propelling it along the path of an inclusive museum that generates relations and reflects the diversity and complexity of the nation. Research, academic events and temporary exhibitions about Colombia and its regional particularities have since been developed
and each has contributed to laying the foundations for the renovation of the permanent exhibition rooms. Accordingly, in association with the Colombian Institute of Anthropology and History, the Museum has worked towards the reinterpretation and diversification of its collections, the chronicling of the stories that they reveal, and the search for new ways to narrate the life of the country.
Memory and Nation and Land as Rosource are the firsts rooms in the renovation project. Here
diverse approaches to historical interpretation are brought together to provide differing views and joint readings.
