Red Canoe

Red Canoe, located on Harford Road in the heart of the Lauraville neighborhood, combines a children’s bookstore with a café serving pastries, sandwiches, and other breakfast and lunch items. Owners Nicole and Peter Selhorst opened the café in 2004, providing a gathering place for the many young families that were settling in the neighborhood at that time. In a 2009 review, former Sun restaurant critic said, “Red Canoe deserves pioneering credit” for the revitalization of the Lauraville section of the Harford Road corridor, continuing, “And have I mentioned their muffins?”

Red Canoe is the official children’s bookstore of the 2016 Baltimore Book Festival, September 23-25, and announces lunch specials, author readings, and other events on their Facebook page.
