Bach Archive and Museum

The Bach-Archive was founded in the 1950s and focuses on the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach, the renowned German composer of the Baroque period. In addition to Johann, the institution also researches and documents the greater Bach family. The Bach-Archive is listed as an institution of national importance and plays an important cultural role in the city. Since 2008, it has been part of the University of Leipzig and serves as an important tool in research and education.
Alongside its academic role, the Bach-Archive also hosts a number of festivals and events throughout the year. This includes the Leipzig Bach Festival and an international competition for young musicians.
The Bach Museum inside the building is the most comprehensive collection on the famous composer. The exhibits tell the story of the composer’s life and his prized contributions to the German culture and music.
