Julie Livingstone was the youngest in a family of 13 children living in West Belfast. On 12 May 1981, passing a small street protest, she was fatally injured by a plastic bullet fired by a British Army patrol. She died in hospital the following day. She was 14 years old. An inquest jury found that Julie was, “An innocent victim” who had not been rioting, contrary to British Army accounts of her death. Around 1000 people attended her funeral, including school friends who formed a guard of honour.
