The Mass Grave of soldiers killed at the Battle of Borodino is at the St Saviour Borodinsky Convent, behind where the car park now stands. Three large wooden orthodox crosses mark the graves – they were put up relatively recently. When the graves were recently excavated, they were found to contain the remains of a very large number of soldiers who gave their lives at the Battle of Borodino. By the efforts of the ‘Borodino Field’ museum staff, a small churchyard was organized, and the remains reburied with full honour.
