On the right there is a long sand-coloured building with triangular gable ends. This is the Central Exhibition Hall, more commonly known as the Manezh.
The Manezh was built to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the victory in the War against Napoleon. Emperor Alexander I was gong to come to Moscow personally and so gave orders to construct a building fit for a formal parade. This would involve an entire regiment, or about 2000 men and that explains the size of the building. Following that the Manezh was used for marching drills and then it was redesigned as a hall for exhibitions and concerts. Large scale exhibitions have been held here ever since.
