These are small parrots; the size of the body is 26-28 cm. They live in south-eastern Australia. They inhabit open regions, savanna with scattered trees and shrubs, meadows, pastures, orchards, parks, coastal area, mangroves to a height of 1000 m above sea level. They eat mostly seeds of grasses, shrubs, berries, buds and insects. They often feed on farms picking up grain during the feeding of livestock or birds. The Red-rumped parrot is sometimes harmful to cereal crops. They nest in all types of buildings, houses, barns, etc. It is a very common pet bird. They have a nice melodic voice. A male sings very well.
