Saint-André-le-Bas church and cloister
These two buildings were once part of a powerful abbey, founded in the 6th century. At the end of the 9th century, the church was King Boson’s palace chapel, and was restored in the 11th and 12th centuries. With its apse framed by sturdy columns and re-used ancient capitals, the church is notable for its decorative Roman style carvings. The cloister (12th century) is also richly decorated with flowers, beasts and biblical scenes, heavily influenced by ancient art. On the walls are a variety of gravestones with inscriptions (5th-7th/14th century).
