Museum Embankment
There are not so many cities in the world that can boast the same number of museums, as Frankfurt. You are standing on the Museum Embankment stretching from the Eiserner Steg bridge to the Friedensbrucke bridge. It was named so because of the large concentration of museums in this place. Just imagine that there are a dozen well-known museums on the south bank of the Main River, lined up as if on a parade day, but also no less museums on the opposite bank of the river.
The Museum Embankment can be rightly called the cultural center of Frankfurt. It is also the venue for various cultural events. The Museum Embankment Festival is held here on the last weekend of August. The Museums Night, during which the museums are open all night, is held in spring. And if you're strong enough, you can visit them all in one night, because they are located side by side.
Art exhibitions are also held on the embankment, as well as folk festivals, costume parades and concerts. You can see the sailing regatta and rowing championship on the river.
Out of all interesting museums, the German Film Museum is worth mentioning, too. It is located on the other side of the street from where you are standing now. Having visited it, you can learn almost everything about the world of the film industry. You can not only see the exposition of the museum, but also imagine yourself as cameraman, sound engineer, or film editor. You will be able to load film into a movie camera by yourself, set the lighting, or use sound recording equipment.
In the museum there are samples of the first motion picture cameras, posters, photographs, scripts, props, film awards and movies. The special pride of the museum are sketches for Spielberg’s "Artificial Intelligence", Maximillian Schell’s Oscar for his role in "Judgment at Nuremberg" and Romy Schneider costume from the movie "Sissi".
