Typical of French classical urbanism, Place Vendome is one of Paris's most famous square, and is considered one of the most luxurious in the world. In its center stands the Vendome column erected in 1810 by Napoleon to commemorate the Austerlitz battle. 44 meters high it was made up of 98 stone drums, is covered with bronze from the cannons captured from the Russian and Austrian armies, and decorated with reliefs representing trophies and battle scenes.
