About the museum

This museum is a unique opportunity to explore the hidden history of Naples and its relationship with water. The museum is located inside the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore alla Pietrasanta, also known as the LAPIS Museum, and consists of an underground path that is almost 40 meters deep and 800 meters long. It is one of the most recent access points to the underground of Naples and has been curated and enhanced by the Associazione Pietrasanta.

As you descend into the museum, you will be transported back in time.

You will learn about the ancient aqueducts that brought water to the city, the role of water in Neapolitan culture, and the importance of water conservation.

We hope you enjoy your visit to the Museum of Water!
