Samuel Gassan, heeft van 1924 tot 1936 het vak diamantslijpen geleerd in dit gebouw. Na de tweede wereldoorlog is hij voor zich zelf begonnen in 1945 als Samuel Gassan N.V.
In 1983 is Samuel Gassan overleden. De huidige president eigenaar is de kleinzoon van Samuel Gassan, Dhr Leeser. Samuel Gassan NV is veranderd in Gassan BV, met het hoofdkantoor in de voormalig diamant stoom slijperij op de Nieuwe Uilenburgerstraat, een grote juwelierszaak op de Dam, Gassan Dam Square, een boutique in de PC, Gassan Boutique, 15 verkooppunten op Schiphol, 2 op Singapore airport en diverse marketing kantoren in het buitenland.
