Audio tour URINARY & REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

The Reproductive System.  Unlike other systems, the organs of the reproductive systems of both men and women have different anatomic characteristics.  However, the organs of both sexes can be divided into two groups: the primary organs, the testes in the male and the ovaries in the female, which produce sperm or eggs; while the accessory organs, which include a series of ducts, allow the transport of sperm or eggs from the testes and ovaries.  In these two specimens, you will see the basic anatomy of most reproductive organs of the male and female bodies.  You can clearly see the male’s reproductive organs, like the testes and penis but you may not see several others like the ejaculatory tubes, seminal vessels and the vulva urethra gland, because they are located deep in the tissue.  In the female specimen, you can see the uterus compressed behind the urinary bladder.  You will note the breasts without any skin covering. The breasts contain mammary glands, fat and fibrous connective tissue.  They are paired, positioned over the pectoral muscles of the chest and attached to the chest wall by ligaments.  A layer of fatty tissues surrounds these breast glands and extend throughout the breasts.  The breasts are responsible for the production of milk during lactation. The size and shape of the breast are not important in relation to milk production.  However, women should become familiar with the normal anatomy of their breasts so they can recognize early signs of possible abnormalities.  Monthly self breast examination is an important aspect of preventive care for every woman.
