From Groenplaats, you will find yourself entering the 'parish of misery', i.e. the Sint-Andries quarter. Relatively recently, the Sint-Andries quarter was a poor working class neighborhood, but through intensive renovations and re-zoning, it has now become fashionable. The renewal of the district was due to the new use of the building at number 28. Antwerp is a city of fashion but a central location where this could be reflected did not yet exist. The building at number 28 was renamed ModeNatie. In addition to the ModeMuseum (Fashion Museum), this building also houses the fashion design courses run by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and the Flanders Fashion Institute. Even if you don’t like fashion, a visit to the MoMu is well worth it, if only for the interior design. The interior is impressive and at the same time restrained due to the use of a beautiful combination of wood and clean lines by the architect Marie-José van Hee.
