...Of their own land may learn, will mention make
Of their great tsars, their labours, glory, goodness…
“Boris Godunov” by Alexander Pushkin
In order to commemorate the day when Nicholas II of Russia and his family were executed 100 years ago, the State Historical Museum presents an exhibition titled “In Memory of Russia’s Last Emperor. Relics from the Emigration Museum in Belgrade”. The exhibition is based on a unique collection of items, which was once housed at the Nicholas II Museum in Belgrade and now belongs to the Historical Museum.
The present exhibition primarily features documents from the archives of the museum’s department of written sources that have to do with the work of the Nicholas II Society, including their correspondence with the last of the Romanovs, personal belongings and letters of Nicholas II and the members of his family, and photographs of the members of the Romanov dynasty bearing their signatures. The collection was scientifically described by M. Falaleeva in 1997. Apart from the aforementioned artifacts, the exhibition also features footage from the official celebrations in Moscow of the centennial commemoration of Russia’s victory in the Patriotic War of 1812, which had also once belonged to the Nicholas II Museum.
Many of the relics have been put on public display for the first time.
