Welcome to a short walking tour of the Village of Burrumbuttock

The current view is entering Burrumbuttock from the Walla Walla Burrumbuttock Road.

Burrumbuttock, commonly referred to by locals as “Burrum” was established in late 1880’s. The name itself is thought to be of Wiradjuri origin as “Burrum” means water in their language. Many locals would argue that it means bullocks backbone, but there is no evidence to support this claim.

The Village sits on a parcel of land that was once formed the Burrumbuttock run, a station property of squatter Thomas Jamieson Faithful Gibson. The station was subsequently broken up under the Robertson land act of 1861 and shortly afterwards many German settlers trekked across from South Australia and selected farmland in the area.
