关于博物馆
Discover the magnificent Bahia Palace, a 19th-century architectural masterpiece that showcases the finest Moroccan craftsmanship. Built by Si Moussa and expanded by his son Ba Ahmed - two former slaves who rose to become Morocco's most powerful leaders - this palace tells an extraordinary story of ambition, artistry, and political intrigue.
Walk through 150 rooms organized around stunning courtyards and riad gardens, each decorated with intricate zellij tilework, carved cedar ceilings, and sculpted stucco. The palace's name means "brilliance" in Arabic, and every surface reflects the skill of master craftsmen brought from across Morocco.
Highlights include the Grand Courtyard paved with Italian Carrara marble, the intimate Small Riad with its painted galleries, and the former harem quarters where Ba Ahmed's 24 wives once lived in luxury. The palace materials were sourced internationally - marble from Meknes, cedar from the Middle Atlas, tiles from Tetouan, and stained glass from Iraq.
Originally covering 8 hectares with gardens, mosque, and stables, the palace served as the seat of power for Morocco's grand viziers. Later used by French colonial authorities, it became a national monument in 1924.
Today, this UNESCO-recognized site offers visitors an immersive journey through Morocco's golden age of decorative arts and political power, where every room whispers tales of royal intrigue and artistic mastery.
