音频游览 Permanent collections - room 3 - The XXst Century (inter-war period)

It was during this period that alternatives to bisque were increasingly used. This was the golden age of celluloid and bathing dolls, to which the museum’s largest display enclosure is dedicated. A toy store is reproduced in it, incorporating numerous doll models from major French companies such as Anel, SIC, Nobel, Petitcollin, Convert, Raynal…

At the same time, bisque models were gradually replaced by so-called "unbreakable" papier maché or composition dolls, produced both by SFBJ and other companies like Gégé, Renou, CIJ.

It was at this time, too, that the souvenir and regional doll market developed along with the creation of paid vacations.

Here are also presented dolls related to the children magazine La Semaine de Suzette published by Editions Gautier-Languereau since 1905. Bleuette, Bambino, Rosette and the incomparable Becassine will remind memories to children from yesterday and today.
