Established in the year 1982, Pathanamthitta is a small district situated on the fertile banks of river Achenkovil. Due to the importance of a lot of pilgrim centers situated in this region, it is referred as the headquarters of pilgrimage tourism in Kerala.This is one of the districts in Kerala where more than half of the total land area is camouflaged with forests.
