关于博物馆

Groam House Museum is a great place for all the family to visit. Based in the seaside village of Rosemarkie on the Black Isle, it is small but full of fascinating objects from the time of the Picts and more recently. Downstairs, it has a permanent exhibition of Pictish sculptural art, dating from the time when Rosemarkie was the site of an important monastic settlement between Burghead to the south and Portmahomack to the north. The stunning examples of carved stones on display were all found in the local village, and include the magnificent Rosemarkie cross-slab. The museum also cares for a collection of the work of Scottish artist, George Bain, now recognised as of National Significance. It also has a local history collection, and a quality gift shop. Upstairs, temporary exhibitions are presented, featuring the George Bain or the local history collection. Currently the exhibition features the work of local artist Thomas Keyes, who has reproduced what the monastic scriptorium may have looked like, and has drawn a parallel between the work of the local monks and that of George Bain. Thomas has also brought a new interpretation to the Pictish stones in the permanent exhibition by drawing out the geometric underpinning to the designs.,

The museum shop stocks high quality gifts with Celtic and Pictish themes.  There are activities for children and videos to watch as well as a suite of interactive computer programmes.
