The Airavateswara Temple is one of the three Great Living Chola temples as part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The other temples in this group are Brihadeeswar Temple in Thanjavur and Gangai Konda Choleswar temple in Gangai Konda Cholapuram.

All these temples were built by the Chola Dynasty and are nearly 850 to 1000 years old. This temple is the smallest of the three. However, it makes up for its size with a sculptural beauty which takes our breath away.
