The city is located on the Rhine near the borders of France and Germany, here is the largest number of museums in the country. With more than forty museums and the Kunstmuseum, which is the oldest public art museum in the world (1661), Basel is considered the cultural capital of Switzerland.
It is the venue for the world's most important art fair Art Basel (it takes place in June). Here you can get acquainted with the works of both recognized artists and emerging talents. Basel is the third largest city in the country. The city arose on the site of the Roman fortification Basilea. And it was first mentioned in the 3rd century AD. It received its name in 374 from the Roman fort Basilia ("royal fortress"), located on the territory of the city. The official language in the commune of Basel is the Swiss dialect of German. The Rhine River divides the city and its historical center into two parts: Greater Basel on the left bank and Lesser Basel on the right.
Our excursion will take place in Greater Basel, the route is almost a closed trajectory, including the main attractions of the city. The length of the route is 6 km, we will see museums, cathedrals, churches, city gates, fountains, bridges and much more. It's time to go. Are you ready?
