Welcome to izi.TRAVEL’s walking tour to visit one of the most ancient and famous Buddhist monuments in India. Sanchi Town is located 45 kilometres northeast of Bhopal which is the capital city of Madya Pradesh. The Sanchi site remained as the oldest and most famous Buddhist testimonials in India since the early Mauryan period to 12 century A.D. It was known in different names such as Kakanava, Kakanaya, Kakanadabota and Bota Sri Parvata.

The Great stupa at Sanchi is capped by a Chhatra, a parasol-like formation, meant to honour and protect the exquisite relics. Almost all of the Buddha statues at the Sanchi Stupas were said to be painted with the celebrated Mauryan polish that made them glow like glass. The last edition to the Stupas were erected during the reign of the Guptas, before 450 A.D. In Sanchi, you as a visitor will experience the living presence of Buddha, his protective powers and energy.

So, get set and follow me. My name is Aparna and I’ll be your izi.TRAVEL tour guide to enlighten you with the stories of the stupas.
