The Belgrade Fortress is the heart of the Serbian capital and the main witness to the difficult fate of the Serbian people. A walk through the stronghold is sure to be fascinating, because there are a huge number of attractions scattered on its territory.
The fortress, standing on white cliffs at the confluence of the Danube and the Sava, has been captured many times in its 2000-year history, repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. The earth has "reared up" here many times, and there are granite slabs here too.
The construction of the fortress was not carried out according to a single plan. It would be more correct to say that the fortress consists of an interweaving of defensive fortifications of different eras, each of which was built in addition to the previous ones or instead of them. As a result, here you can see examples of European military architecture spanning a span of two thousand years and traces of Turkish rule that lasted 300 years. It was the Turks who called Belgrade the "city of war", thereby succinctly expressing its history.
Walking through its surroundings, you will get an idea of the real history and significance that the fortress had.
Today, the fortress houses many attractions such as the Military Museum, Kalemegdan Park, the Belgrade Zoo and other sites of historical, architectural and archaeological significance, as well as events, concerts and exhibitions.
If you want to explore the Belgrade Fortress and the park around it thoroughly, plan a whole day for them, because with our tour we will visit almost all its attractions.
