It is a centre for the conservation, study and understanding of the Mediterranian flora, and specifically that of the Balearic Islands.
In April 1997, a foundation was set up under the patronage of the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Council of Mallorca, the Sóller Town Council, the University of the Balearic Islands, the Caixa de Balears "Sa Nostra" savings bank, the Ibero-Macaronesic Association of Botanic Gardens, and the Balearic Natural Science Museum Association.
Objectives
- To conserve the endemic, rare or endangered plant species of the Balearics Islands, and of other Mediterranean islands and their continental areas of influence
- To instruct and educate schoolchildren and adults, through collections of live plants, exhibitions, photographic contests, lectures, monographic publications, didactic material such as posters, leaflets etc.
- To research conservation biology, the reproductive biology of wild species of plant, horticulture, gardening, etc.
- 1 M1 - Plants from torrent beds and shady mountainsides
- 2 M2 - Plants from rocky shores
- 3 M3 - Reserve collections
- 4 M4 - Oak forest flora
- 5 M5 - Mountain flora, maquis flora, scrub land and screen slope flora
- 6 M6 - Fresh water flora
- 7 M7 - Canary Islands flora
- 8 M8 and M9 - The flora of Corsica, Sardinia, Sycili, Malta and Crete
- 9 M10 - Ornamental plants
- 10 M11 - Collection of medicinal plants
- 11 M12 and M13 - Collection of fruit trees and vegetables native
