  2. Audio tour Summary

East Asia occupies the easternmost part of Eurasia bordering the Pacific Ocean. This region includes countries such as eastern China, Japan, North and South Korea, and Taiwan. Much of East Asia is characterised by humid climates with frequent monsoons.

The East Asia section was founded in March 1955. Most of the plants have been grown from seeds received from the botanical garden in Batumi, as well as other botanical gardens, including in China.

On this site you can acquaint yourselves with the world's oldest surviving plants – those from the genera Metasequoia, Ginkgo and Magnolia. Right there, near a Metasequoia grove, you can see a fossilised 70 million-year-old tree.
