Lake Sevan

The historical name of Lake Sevan is the Geghama Sea. High in the mountains, near an almost deserted landscape created by nature, the preserved lake provides the people of Armenia with huge reserves of sweet water. The lake’s origin is a result of tectonic processes and volcanic activity. At present the area of Lake Sevan’s water is approximately 1,256 sq. kilometers, and the maximum depth is 82 meters. The water table’s height above sea level is 1, 897 meters.
