The first school in Ungarie was established in 1891 with 18 students. Seven years later is closed due to declining attendance.

A new school in the current location was opened in 1917 with 30 students and by 1920 enrolments had increased and an extension was built. Enrolments peaked in the 1970s with between 200 and 300 students. Today, Ungarie Central School is a K-12 rural school, with a mission to develop successful learners in an atmosphere that promotes excellence and equity for all.

This short tour put together by primary students of Ungarie Central School gives you a glimpse of what school was like between 1925 - 1954.

If you haven't already done so, you can continue your stroll through Ungarie, grab a drink or bite to eat at the cafe or pub and enjoy the history of our little town on the Ungarie Heritage Tour on izi.Travel.

This tour was developed with the assistance of Bland Shire Council through a Country Arts Support Program (CASP) grant, administered by Regional Arts NSW (RANSW) on behalf of Create NSW. The students worked with regional museums advisor, Kim Biggs, and digital media artist, Kim V. Goldsmith.
